Activity 1:

Create a poster that displays the design process steps:

1. Design Brief

2. Research

3. Ideation

4. Sketching

5. Final Idea

6. Manufacture

7. Evaluation

Make the poster visually appealing using colour, shapes, diagrams, patterns etc. so that it can be used as a study guide to remember the steps of the design process. Completed posters will be displayed around the classroom.

 

Activity 2:

Create a Design Brief for the person sitting next to you on the redesign of a costume from one of Colleen Atwood's movies, or alternatively a movie of your own choice. Give Background information, Identify a Problem, and state Limitations. The more specific information you give the more the outcome will succeed. Swap design briefs with your partner.

 

 

Activity 3:

Using the design process and the steps involved, particularly the steps used by Colleen Atwood, fulfil the design brief given to you by your partner.

Requirements:

1. Ideation: conduct adequate research, understand the design brief, write down ideas, brainstorming, thumbnail sketches,

2. Sketching: begin finalising ideas by sketching a few different designs, minimum of three costume designs showing progress. Include labelling such as design features, positives, improvements.

3. Final Idea: using a personal evaluation of the designs you have come up with and drawn detailing the features, choose a final idea which you think meets the requirements of the design brief.

4. Evaluation: Swap your work back to your partner. Discuss and display your ideas to eachother, examining the designs. Conduct a Plus Minus Improvement evaluation on whether your design brief was appropriately met by your partner.

Share with the class.

 

Activity 4:

Research a textile designer of your choice and begin work on a case study. Designers can include costume, fashion, fabric, furnishing, textile art designers etc. Make the case study interesting and exciting using formats such as Word, Powerpoint, a poster, booklet, pamphlet.

Requirements:

1. Designers name and a photo of them

2. Description of their work (include photos)

3. Training and experience e.g. schooling, early career

4. Their design process

5. Interesting facts

6. List of references where you retrieved information e.g. from websites, books, magazines etc.
